GS Tompe Sarvaganik Mahavidyalaya, Chandur Bazar

Located in n 1968, Late Govidraoji Sitaramji Tompe founded the 'G.S.Tompe Mahavidyalaya Sarvajanik Trust' at Chandur Bazar. The reason behind it was that founder President Late Govidraoji Sitaramji Tompe resident of chandur bazar, was illiterate. In fact to speak about him as illiterate is injustice to him. Because generally illiterate people do not have the foresight which require to have to provide the education to the poor students of nearby areas. Rather it would be proper to speak of him unschooled. In those days only on the district level colleges of higher education were opened and the poor students of the villager had to go in big cities to acquire the higher education. They had to stay 40 to 50 Km away from their native places. So it was very difficult for the financially poor students to bear the expenses of higher education., When G.S Tompe came to know this he began to think to open senior college since 1965. Meanwhile he got inspired from his nearest and dearest person and in 1968 the afore mentioned institution was founded. In the way in 1968 G.S. Tompe Arts & Commerce college came into existence. It was the first college in the area of chandur bazar to be started. Initially only five to six subjects were being tought in the college. During the period more than 38 years college made much more progress and now 20 subjects are tought. Girls and boys are taking the education without going remote from their places. Students are always in the centre of our attraction. We could make such progress only because of the educational concept of the Late G.S. Tompe and well cultured staff. Now from the std. 11th to graduation various subjects of arts and commerce are tought. In 1992 M.C.V.C. On vocational has been started. The college has its own individual building. It is well equipped with infrastructural facilities. With help of U.G.C. Double storied building of library has been constructed. It has been named after the ' Sant Gadge Maharaj Wachanalya'. An individual cultural hall of 1800 sq. ft. has been constructed for the teachers and the students. Due to this it has become very much convenient to hold the meeting and to organize the workshop and programmes. Students consumer store, cycle stand and canteen for the students have been made available. Construction of ladies hostel is near about completed. Jimkhana and computer room are being constructed., With the help of the U.G.C. The college has made much progress. Since last two years the institution has been submitting the proposals of science faculty. It is still awaited. For the convenience of the students of the area we have submitted the proposal of the B.Ed. And D.Ed. Colleges to NCTE Bhopal. Hereafter wwe are thinking to build indoor stadium of summing pool. For this we are trying to seek the help of the U.G.C. And government. Besides this, the library of our college has earned the reputation of being first to be connected to Internet among the colleges of Amravati University. Management, The principal, Lecturers, non-teaching staff are confident of doingthe same work during the forthcoming years. Overall development of the students will be our main concern and same will be our center of attraction. With the help of the U.G.C. Few under graduate courses have been started.
