Located in Women’s College, Shillong, an Education India Trust sponsored linguistic minority institution was established in 1984. Ever since its inception, this institution, duly aided by a band of committed faculty, has been striving hard to translate its maxim ‘Abirabirma Edhi’ into reality through spread of education amongst the women, in particular, the tribal women belonging to India’s north eastern states. The institute takes pride in the fact that the academic performance of its students enables it to stand out as one of the premiere institutions in the state of Meghalaya. As of now the reputation of the college enables it to draw students even from some of our neighbouring SAARC countries. Functioning from its own impressive campus at upper New Colony, Laitumkhrah, Shillong this institution offers regular academic courses from the plus two level to Three Years integrated Degree (Honours and Pass) in the Arts stream of studies. An aided institution of the Government of Meghalaya since 1991, this institution is affiliated to the Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education for its plus two level courses while for the Degree courses it is affiliated to the North Eastern Hill University, Shillong., Enlisted under section 2f and 12(b) of the University Grants Commission Act of 1956 since 1998, this institute enjoys the privilege of having periodic financial and academic inputs from the apex body regulating the state of higher education in the country as a whole towards enhancement and improvisation of its infrastructure and academic capabilities., Besides the regular academic activities, the institute encourages and extends all possible support to its students to ensure their participation in extra-curricular activities such as debating, sports and cultural events as the Institute sincerely appreciates that, besides bringing out the multifaceted potential of each of its students, such activities go a long way to ensure harmonious development of its students through skilful shaping of their spiritual, mental, moral, physical and aesthetic faculties., Being alive to the shifting contours of modern day academic endeavour, the institute deems it incumbent upon itself to equip its students with knowledge and technical skills that transcend conventional disciplines. Accordingly, the institute continuously explores avenues to academically associate itself with institutes imparting professional and technical courses. In its effort to provide for application oriented courses, the Institute already has a fully functional Special Study Centre of IGNOU that offers a few professional and technical courses that can substantially augment the skill and professional compatibility of all students desirous of taking advantage of these specialised courses offered under the auspices of the IGNOU Study Centre, Our faculty devotes a substantial component of their efforts and energy in counselling the students on matters relating to their career prospects and even on inter-personal matters that they feel demand attention besides devotionally dispensing their academic responsibilities in the lecture halls. Organising orientation and motivational discourses, career fairs, preparing students for various entrance tests to institutions of higher learning in various parts of the country besides supporting students during routine college activities such as College Week Celebrations are part of the regular service briefs of its faculty., Overriding fairly formidable constraints on spatial and fiscal front besides other limitations, this institute today, indeed, had covered a lot of ground to transform itself into a vivid consolidation of the vision of a few unswerving individuals who spared no efforts towards scripting an expanding and vibrant future for the women belonging to the region and beyond through spreading of meaningful and substantive education befitting the needs of modern time., Our Vision and Mission, Our inspiration and dedication is steered by the spirit of our motto, “Radiance unto All” that means an elaboration of the luminous sphere present in all individuals.
