Mizoram University, Aizawl Department of Forestry The Department of Forestry was established in the year 1990 during the time of NEHU.The department came up basically to cater the manpower need for various forestry activities, which is one of the major sources of livelihood support in the region. The university permitted to admit students in Ph.D. program in the year 1992. Since 1993 registration of Ph.D program has been opened and since then research work has also been started. M.Sc. program was started since 1996 and the degree is awarded on completion of research project, which is unique in India, and also helps students in developing research aptitude. The syllabus has been revised in 2006 covering issues concerning sustainable management, conservation and development of all types of forests. The department aims to produce efficient and skilled manpower for sustainable management and utilization of forest and biodiversity resources of the area. It visualizes not only to impart quality education and skill to the students but also to carry out quality and need based research, the outcome of which can be extended to the people of the region for making forestry sector as an important income generating source on sustainable basis.
