Birupa College is christened after the name of one of the holiest rivers of Odisha, “The Birupa”. It is situated at village Indupur on the south bank of Pattamundai Canal, which is some 15 kms away towards north-west direction of the district head quarter of Kendrapara. Geographically its location is at 20-30 North Latitude and 86-28 East Longitude., Indupur, a holy place because of the confluence of the river Birupa, the river Brahmani and the hidden tributary Kelua, thus culminating as Trinity and attracting the attention of many pilgrims from far and wide for a holy dip in the waters of Birupa during the famous day of “Baruni Yatra” with the sacred “Darshan” of Goddess Chandidevi and God Indreswar may be compared with that of “Prayag”., Birupa College is the outcome of the sincere efforts of the local people, who by drawing a prospective plan to enhance the academic standard, took initiatives for the regional and societal needs and the domestic potential of job opportunities for the rural youths. Indupur, though a very small place in the map of India, had its role to play in India’s Struggle for Freedom. Gandhi’s non-violent approach in the form of satyagrah, picketing and fasting had its far-reaching impact on some notable and worthy sons of the soil, who joined the Freedom Movement to bring independence to us. The Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi made a maiden visit to this area in 1934 and stayed for a short time in a monastery named as Bhakta Vilas Matha at Dhumat village, which inspired the local youths of the time to use this rural area as an arena of freedom struggle., The college has started its mission in 1982 offering education up to Degree level in Arts & Science streams with an objective that the youths of the society will go on pursuing their studies to fulfil the dreams of life. The college has obtained affiliation from Utkal Univeristy, Bhubaneswar for traditional I.A. course in Arts in 1982, which subsequently converted to Higher Secondary course in 1983 and got its affiliation from CHSE Odisha, Bhubaneswar. The college also received the grant of affiliation to open Degree course in the year 1989 from Utkal Univeristy, Vanivihar, Bhubaneswar. Further the college has been enlisted under 2F and 12B of the UGC Act in 1993., Presently the college provides Higher Secondary and Degree course under CBCS pattern in both Arts & Science streams with English, Odia, History, Political Science, Sociology, Education, Economics, Logic & Philosophy, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology subjects with Honours teaching facilities at Degree level.
