Located in Neelamadhab Mahavidyalaya,Kantilo Dist-Nayagarh of Odisha is a Non-Govt. degree college. It is located in the rural area of the developing district Nayagarh which is 85 Kms. from the state headquarters to BBSR and lies on 20' 24' 10'' N 85'9'57'' Elatitude longitude of India. Kantilo occupies a unique identity in the cultural heritage of Odisha as well as in the tourism map of India. The geography of the place is rich with varied flora & fauna, green mountains, laced with the holy river Mahanadi that touches the feet of Brahmadri, the heavenly abode of Lord Jew Neelamadhab, the origin of Jagannath Culture., Kantilo, the celestial abode of Lord Neelamadhab jew occupies a unique place in the cultural heritage of Odisha. Besides being a religious hub, the pastoral landscape of Kantilo allures most visitors. Kantilo a Panchayat in the District of Nayagarh is well-known for its bell-metal work. Most of the people are literate and aware of the changing national phenomena. So they could foresee their fate through the leaders of the land., An urge to render higher education motivated the then leaders of the big village. The then M.L.A, Satya Sundar Mishra, Antaryami Sahoo, Harihar Das, Bhagaban Sahoo & Trilochan Pujapanda and other noble souls of the rural region endeavored with their self-less dedication and sustained effort to realize the dream of a college. The result was a resolution to found a college on 26th August 1977 that came to fruition on 15th September 1977, on the postoral banks of the Chitrotpala with a promise to further the cause of higher education in the rural community., In the early stage, the college had to pass through hard times as there was financial crisis to meet the mounting college expenses. Varied sources were exploited to raise funds for the college buildings, even the common folks had to cut their daily budget short to see the growth of the temple of learning., In the formative days, the college starts with a humble strength of 50 students, 10 teachers and some ministerial staffs, and over the years it grew up to a leading status with 40 faculty members. Lab/Technical, ministrial support staff and over 1200 students strength. During the period of the then President Late Arun Kumar Pattnaik and Principal-Cum-Secretary Sri Bhaskar Samal from 26.09.1988 to 06.09.1994, the scope of learning was extended to +2 Science, +3 Commerce and five Hons. in Arts i.e. English, Pol. Science, History, Sanskrit and Economics., The mission of college “Lead me from darkness unto light” connotes learning which leads us to knowledge and enlightenment from the darkness of ignorance. The goal of the institution is to generate a quest for knowledge by fostering creativity, scientific temper and leadership that would transmute the college into a real centre for higher learning for the betterment of the society., At present the Mahavidyalaya offers undergraduate courses in 19 subjects covering three streams with 06 Hons Courses in Arts and Science, two trades like Creche and Pre-School Management and Travel & Tourism Technique at Vocational stream. The infrastructure of the college incorporates a long two storied academic building that houses the Arts Block, Science Block and Library, Office room, Principal Chamber and Staff Common room. There are separate boys’ and girls’ common rooms & an office for P.E.T. Besides all these there is a spacious play ground with 400 Mts. track attached to the college & has its own water supply, botanical garden and a canteen, cycle stand, separate lavatories for both students and staff., Though the college has no separate library building, it is running in the academic arts block with well equipped furniture and books. The strength of the library counts a collection of 15,962 both in +2 & +3 including reference books purchased by college, U.G.C aid, subscription of 03 magazines and 06 dailies up to date the students and teachers with current affairs., The college has been enlisted in 2 f in 2000. Since then, the U.G.C. has been providing financial assistance for the promotion of academic activities and development of the infrastructure.
