Department of Geology
The Department of Geology was started as Madras university P.G extension centre at Govt., Engineering College Campus in the Year 1984. Prof A. Jayakumar was the Head for the Madras university PG extension centre and later he became the first Vice Chancellor of the Periyar University. Geology department was evolved as one of the pioneer Departments under Periyar University in the year 1997. Since then it was functioning in the university without any permanent faculty members in the department. The department has got full-fledged status from December 2004. Prof. S.
