Located in M. R. Govt. College Fazilka, is a reputed co-educational institution of higher education in Punjab. The college was established in 1940 by Lala Munshi Ram Trust in the memory of Late Munshi Ram. Since its inception, it has been serving the border belt and backward area of Malwa region of Punjab. The journey of this college never remained smooth. In 1970, it was at its peak. But since then it started becoming sick due to financial crisis. The management of this college, ultimately handed over the college to Punjab Government in June, 1983. It was a new lease of life to the college. The college started coming back on its wheels again. In 1987-88, a new block was constructed with six spacious rooms which met the need of rising number of student-strength. Subsequently in 1992 staff quarters with 2 sets for lecturers, one for Principal and 3 sets for class IV were constructed. In 1993, commerce was introduced as a new faculty.M. R. Govt. College has sound infrastructure with natural landscaping. There are sufficient class rooms for accommodating more than 1800 students. Separate wings have been made for separate disciplines. The central building has Principal's office, there is new block which caters to Arts classes. On the right side, there is a science block, which constitutes lecture theatres, labs and science museums. There are two separate cycle sheds one for the boys and the other for girls. There is an improvised common room for girls housed in old Hostel building. The boys are adjusted in a hall. The library is housed in a separate building with 20,000 books. A small hall serves as reading room with newspaper and magazines., Government College is a state College. We cater for boys and girls between the ages of 18 to 27 years Pupils are placed in classes of about 50 students.The college management determines the criteria for admission in accordance with the constitution of our country. The language of instruction will be English/Punjabi (offered on a first language level and assume that the learner come to college able to speak and understand the language) and the additional language will be Punjabi (offered on a second language level)., We believe that a high quality education, with an international outlook, is critical in an increasingly competitive global environment.
