Optometry is a health care profession concerned with eyes and related structures, as well as vision, visual systems, and vision information processing in humans.
Courses Offered :
=> Bachelor of Clinical Optometry (B.Optom)
Duration :
=> 4 years (3 + 1 year Internship)
=> The duration of four years of study will be over eight semesters
Eligibility :
=> Candidates should have successfully completed HSC examinations of any recognized board / university of India or equivalent of 10+2 education in India or abroad with minimum of 60% marks.
=> The eligible subjects at the HSC or equivalent: In combination with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry with either Biology or Computer Science
Career Opportunities :
The scope of optometric practice is great, as there is a huge demand for optometrist both in India and abroad. Optometrists can set up their own private practice and work independently. Optometrist can work as consultants in eye hospitals, occupational/industrial safety programs, and manufacturers of ophthalmic products and can also choose a career in the public health, sports vision, and government service or community health centers. Optometrist can involve in research and specialize as vision scientist. Higher education like M.S, M.Phil, Ph.D or OD (Doctor of Optometry) degree can be pursued after completion of Bachelors in Optometry. The initial monthly income of an optometrist ranges from Rs.20,000 to Rs.40,000.
