Located in The Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals was instituted in November 1988 with a goal to render quality dental education and treatment. Many years of toil, commitment and dedication have seen the college graduate from a concept to reality. Today, on the brink of its tenth year, it is a mammoth educational institution of no small measure. A force to reckon with, in the field of dental education, Saveetha Dental College and Hospital has produced several dental surgeons, some of whom have made their own mark, nationally and internationally. The college is affiliated to Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and recognised by the Dental Council of India. Under the dynamic and visionary leadership of the Trust President, the college has today grown into a post graduate institution of formidable reputation as well along with paramedical institutions in physiotherapy, occupational therapy and nursing., A large well stocked library extending over 5000 sq. ft. is located in the Ground Floor, which is centrally air conditioned, giving an ideal environment for the students to study. Apart from the wide and varied complement of books, directly or indirectly relevant to dentistry, for the under graduates, a large number of reference books and journals are stocked for the post graduate students and those who are interested in pursuing research. For those who would require reprints a photo copier and duplicating machine are available in the library itself. The Library has facilities for 13 individuals to access the internet via a local network of powerful computers located in the library, thus giving the seeking student, access to a massive amount of scientific information. Facilities are also provided for the staff and students to make scientific presentations for clinical society meetings and respective scientific conferences at the national and international level. Back volumes of journals in the form of CD ROM’s are also available for electronic access to scientific data of yesteryears. In an effort to enable students to make maximal use of the facilities, the library is kept open from 8a.m. to 9p.m., The college has buses plying to and from the city on different routes providing transport facilities to the staff and students. Separate common rooms have been provided for men and women students with lockers for each student. The cafeteria is kept open for staff, students and visitors to the college and hospitals. A 110 kva generator is provided to cater for the hospital in case of power failure. Two numbers of bed lifts are available for easy transportation between the floors. Other facilities like an on campus Bank, Public Telephone Call facility, Pharmacy and Gymnasium are available for the benefit of the students and the staff., A four storied basic medical sciences block houses Anatomy, Physiology, Bio-Chemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology and Microbiology Departments. Each of these departments is headed by experienced full-time Professors with adequate junior staff. Since the college is included in the Anatomy act of the Government of Tamilnadu, adequate number of cadavers are available to teach practical human anatomy to the students. The Physiology and Biochemistry departments are fully equipped to teach clinical and experimental Physiology and Bio-Chemistry as applicable to the clinical practice. Both the Pathology and Microbiology departments are headed by two separate professors with laboratory facilities to teach basic Pathology and Microbiology with a separate Histopathology laboratory and a laboratory with adequate facilities for microbial culture.
