GCE, Salem was then the Third Engineering Institution in Tamil Nadu. The first batch of students was selected for the academic year 1966-1967. The institution offers 6 UG and 5 PG programmes. GCE, Salem is a recognized center for research under Anna University for Ph.D., and M.S., programs. All the departments have well qualified faculty members and excellent infrastructural facilities. GCE, Salem is supported by World Bank Financial Assistance , TEQIP phase II to the tune of 17.5 crores. GCE, Salem has excellent computer facilities with Internet Connectivity in all the departments.
