Thapar University, Patiala Biotechnology at Thapar Technology Campus was initiated in 1993 with Ph.D program and was subsequently supported by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India to start M.Sc. Biotechnology program in 1999. B.Tech. program was started in 2003 followed by M.Sc. Microbiology and M. Tech Biotechnology in 2011 and 2012 respectively. B.Tech Biochemical Engineering is being initiated from July 2014 with the support from Department of Chemical Engineering. The Department sports a unique position in North India as it is supported by two DST (Department of Science & Technology, GoI) sponsored unit’s viz. TIFAC-CORE and STEP–TU. These extended units of the department are equipped with state of the art research facilities for hands on training of students as well as research professionals. Focus of the department is to excel in academics and research in frontier areas of modern biotechnology by providing personal mentoring, hands on training and industrial exposure to the undergraduate and postgraduate students Vision To be recognized as a leader committed to excellence in biological and interdisciplinary technical education, research and innovation and contribute effectively towards sustainable growth and development.
