It is located at Kariavattom campus of Kerala University, about 15 km North of Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station along NH 47. It is a teaching-cum-research department .The department offers M. Sc. (No. of seats = 10), M. Phil. (= 10) and Ph. D. in Environmental Science, and Post-doctoral programmes. Courses in M.Sc. (2 year programme) and M.Phil. (one year programme) in Environmental Science were started in 1999 and 1997 respectively. M.Sc. is of credit and semester pattern.
