DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED ECONOMICS
The Department of Applied Economics has been in existence since 1921, the very year of inception of Lucknow University. Prof. B.N. Chatterji was the first Head of the Department followed by Prof. O.P. Gupta, FSS (London), Major G.Datt, Prof. G.L. Hajela, Prof. M.P. Singh and Prof. K.L. Maheshwari. Eminent scholars like Dr. D. Pant, Dr. A.M. Lorenzo and Dr. S.R.K. Rao have been on the staff of the Department. In 1962-63, the Department introduced a separate Post-graduate degree of M.Com. (Applied Economics) to prepare the students for the emerging area of Applied Economics in view of its growing importance. The Department inter-alia encompass a wide range of field like Economic Development and Planing, Business Economics, Development Finance and policy, Public Utility Economics, international Trade and Foreign Exchange Arithmetic. International Banking and Finance, Applied and Business Statistics, Transport Economics and Rural Economics., In recent years, new disciplines such as Accounting for Economic Decisions, Quantitative Techniques for Business Decision, and Computer Applications have been introduced in the Department to update the courses and make them programmes leading to Ph. D. and D. Ltt. in Applied Economics. With growing globalsational and opening up of Indian economy the Department has launched a highly professional two-year Master's Degree in International Business Management under the leadership of Prof. K.L. Mahaeshwari the present Head of the Department. In the present scenario these courses seeks to meet the challenges of promoting Indian exports to world markets, develop business executives and young en entrepreneurs capable of handling international business situation and challenges and prepare MIBM participates for suitable positions in public and private sectors, export houses, multinationals and international trading houses abroad. THE MIBM PROGRAMME The two-year four semester full-time Programme commencing January every year leading to the award of Master of International Business Management (MIBM) degree of the University of Lucknow is a post-graduate, highly professional courses for careers and opportunities in the key area of International business . With growing globalization of trade and industry, radical changes have taken place in the techniques and approaches to management of international business activities and operations. Hence, the need to develop business executives and young entrepreneurs, capable of handling international business situations and challenges., The minimum qualification required is Bachelor's degree in any discipline form a University or Institute in India or abroad recognized by Lucknow University with minimum 45% marks in aggregate in qualifying degree examination. Those students who are awaiting their final degree courses result may also provisionally appear in the test. Such candidates will be required to produce their final result at the time of interview failing which their admission will not be considered.
