Located in Bejoy Narayan Mahavidyalaya is situated in a natural and open ambience of a village, named Itachuna in the district of Hooghly, some 56 km away from Howrah and 52 km from Burdwan.Not far away from some urban environs the B. N. Mahavidyalaya is a degree college of a great repute. From Khanyan railway station on the Howrah-Bardhaman Main Line the main campus is less than 1 km to the south.Christened after the name of a landlord of the Itachuna village in Pandua Police Station of the district of Hooghly, Late Shree Bejoy Narayan Kundu, this college got its initial approval with an intermediate course from the University of Calcutta in 1950. The college has soon attained a glorious height in the field of education and came to be known as the ‘Presidency college of the University of Burdwan’., From 1957 onwards the College had been approved for its degree courses in Science and Humanities by virtue of the efforts of the Government of West Bengal. In 1960 the institute got its fresh affiliation to the University of Burdwan.The educational courses are run in two sections (Morning and Day) on a co-educational basis.There are 13 subjects with Honours status along with general courses offered by the institute.Students from far-flung villages on both sides of the Main Line, come to get their higher education here. For their food and lodging the College has got 3 hostels.The performances of students both in the internal examinations (annual and unit tests) and in the final (Part I , II and III) examinations are quite encouraging as well as ethically empowering., As the Presidency College of the University of Burdwan, once in the popular parlance, the institute is still progressing unhindered to date., Vision of the Mahavidyalaya:, 1.
