Raja Birendra Chandra College, Kandi
Raja Birendra Chandra College, formerly known as Kandi Raj College of Commerce was established in the year 1965 to cater Commerce.education to the students of Kandi subdivision in particular and students of adjoining area of Kandi subdivision. Raja Birendra Chandra College of Commerce was first affiliated to the University of Calcutta. However, in 1999 it came under the University of Kalyani. Late Kumar Jagadish Chandra Sinha, the then President of Kandi Raj College of commerce trust and educational endowment of the Kandi Raj family donated Rs. 26000/- (twenty six thousand) on behalf of the said trust fund for the proposed Raj a Birendra Chandra College of Commerce. In this way the dream of establishing a Commerce college came to reality. When the college started its journey it had no building of its own. Classes were usually held in the premises of Kandi Raj College in the evening. But thanks to all out efforts of the college authority, especially Sri Monoranjan Ghosh (Ex Teacher-in-Charge of THE College). The college was shifted to its present site in the year 1998. But sharp declining in the number of students at that time raised question regarding ft the sustainability of the college. On the other hand, there was long term demand from the students and newly appointed teachers to introduce Arts stream at the degree level. Keeping those things in mind and to make the college viable the then college authority introduced general Arts stream at the degree level. Honours courses (in Bengali, Histoiy and Sanskrit) were introduced later on. From then Raja Birendra Chandra College started functioning as a full fledged college for Arts and Commerce. It is needless to say that introduction of Arts stream is a new era in the history of the development of the college. It is to be noted that seven new teaching posts have been created recently.
