The D.K.Girls' College was established in 1988 to cater the need of the people of entire area of Dakshin Kamrup. In this greater area from Goalpara in the west, to Guwahati in the East, there was neither a college nor any other institution for higher studies till the establishment of Dakshin Kamrup college in 1961. It was felt that nothing substantial had been done for the progress and development of the women communities in this area so far. So, the educationalists, the local people and the statesmen of Dakshin Kamrup area decided to translate the cause of women education into reality and took the initiative to establish a women college.
