AIEED Syllabus: Design Aptitude Areas and Preparation

A cycle-specific AIEED 2027 syllabus or topic-weightage document could not be verified. IndCareer's archived AIEED guidance describes broad aptitude areas, rather than a prescribed chapter-wise syllabus. Use the areas below as preparation prompts, not as an official exhaustive syllabus; the current ARCH prospectus and sample materials take precedence.

Design aptitude areas in archived guidance

  • Design awareness: design in everyday life, products, spaces, visual communication and the built environment.
  • Visual ability: observation, visual interpretation, form, proportion, composition and relationships between images or objects.
  • Creative and lateral thinking: generating, developing and communicating original responses to a design prompt.
  • Reasoning: analytical and logical reasoning used to understand a brief and make decisions.
  • Comprehension and articulation: understanding written information and expressing an idea clearly in words or visuals.
  • General awareness: broad awareness of society, culture, current affairs and design-related developments.
  • Psychological/design aptitude: the archived description refers to a PED screening; its current scope and assessment criteria have not been confirmed.

Historical assessment components

The archived 2025 article described a Portfolio of Abilities and Statement of Purpose, a CATA task (choose one of two tasks), and a PED screening. This does not establish the 2027 format, marking, weighting or required portfolio contents. Check the current official brochure before preparing or submitting work.

How to prepare responsibly

  1. Download the latest syllabus, brochure and sample task from the official AIEED/ARCH portal, if published.
  2. Practise observation, idea development and visual communication through timed design prompts.
  3. Prepare a portfolio only in the format and with the content requested for your selected programme.
  4. Keep evidence of your own process and follow the institution's rules for original work.
  5. Recheck the official portal for changes to selection stages and deadlines.

No current official chapter-wise syllabus or weightage was verified. Do not assume a fixed distribution unless ARCH publishes it for the cycle you are applying to.
