WBJEE Cutoff and Opening-Closing Ranks: How to Read Trends
WBJEE admissions do not have one universal cutoff rank for every course. Opening and closing ranks vary by institute, programme, counselling round, seat type, category and quota. Use WBJEEB's official allotment and opening/closing-rank (OR-CR) data for the relevant year; a previous-year trend is a guide, not a guarantee of admission.
What determines a WBJEE cutoff?
- Candidate ranks and the number of eligible candidates participating in counselling.
- Course and institute preference, seat matrix, round and seat availability.
- Category, reservation, domicile and quota rules applicable to the seat.
- Changes to participating institutions, programme eligibility or the counselling schedule.
Qualifying benchmarks versus admission cutoffs
Academic eligibility is not the same as an admission cutoff. The WBJEE 2026 bulletin generally specified minimum qualifying-subject marks for admission: Engineering/Technology required 45% across the prescribed subjects (40% for specified reserved categories) and 30% in English; Pharmacy required 45% across Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology (40% for specified reserved categories) and 30% in English. Course, institute and category-specific exceptions apply. Meeting an academic minimum does not guarantee a seat or a particular rank.
Category-wise historical trends
Compare OR-CR data only for the same institution, course, round, seat type and category. Review separate entries for categories and quotas shown in the official data (for example, General, SC, ST, OBC-A/OBC-B, EWS and applicable PwD seats). WBJEEB publishes counselling and OR-CR resources on its official WBJEE page; use the latest available data and read its definitions before comparing ranks.
