Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, was established in 1996. It was Dr. P. D. Patil, Chancellor, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pimpri, Pune’s vision and desire to set up one of the best College, Hospital and Research Centre in Maharashtra and across the country. His efforts bore fruit and with the blessings of Hon’ble Dr. D. Y. Patil, Ex-Governor, Bihar and Tripura the Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre was started.

MIT School of Distance Education (MITSDE) is an integral constituent of MAEER's MIT Pune, established in the year 2008. MAEER's MIT was founded in the year 1983 by Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad, (Founder, Executive President & Managing Trustee) along with the collective efforts of many educationists, scientists and social thinkers. MIT is among the first in professional education offering academic programs at more than 72 institutions and 4 universities across India.

The Padmashree Dr.D.Y.Patil Medical College, established in 1996, received approval of the medical council of India (MCI), for the award of MBBS degree for its very first batch. The college has been accorded the status of Deemed-to-be-University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India on recommendation of the University Grants Commission (UGC) within a period of just six and a half years of establishment, perhaps the shortest period of such recognition.
