Indira Gandhi Agricultural University (IGAU) is an agricultural university at Raipur in the Indian state of Chattisgarh. It was established on 20th January 1987 at Raipur by the State Legislature (Act No. 4 of 1987) to provide a new dimension to the agriculture development of Chhatisgarh region of the State being known as "Rice Bowl". The University was dedicated to perpetuate the memory of Smt Indira Gandhi, the late Prime Minister of India. The main aims of the University are to making provision for education in agriculture and allied science, furthering the prosecution of research particularly in agriculture and allied sciences; undertaking field extension programmes for proper transfer of technology and such other purposes related to the aforesaid with the objective of improving the socio-economic level of rural people. Facilities The University Library "Nehru Library" is on main campus. Total holdings in University Library 21,988 books Number of thesis 525 and 112periodicals out of which 23 are foreign. Each college and research station has its own Library. The library provides documentation service, photocopying service etc. All constituent colleges have hostels with about 475 seats for men Sports & Games: Constituent colleges have facilities for games and sports7940. Fees: Tuition fee per annum (Non-Hostlier) UG Rs.4840, PG Rs.6140 Phd Rs Health Centre: Provides free medical facilities for students and staff and women students.Scholarships and Fellowships Merit Scholarship and Merit cum means scholarship of Rs 1500 to 1800 for 5to 7% students of undergraduate and postgraduate classes. Freeships and half freeship to 10% students. Academics Students are admitted to undergraduate courses after declaration of result of pre admission test conducted by Professional Examination Board, Bhopal. The academic year for postgraduate and PhD courses starts from September.
