The university actually evolved from the Institute of Correspondence Course and Continuing Education of the University of Mysore. Karnataka State Open University is situated in an area of 15 acres along the Mysore-Mangalore highway, in the Manasagangotri campus of the University of Mysore, in Mysore city. It is about 5 km. from the city centre and has an atmosphere ideally suited for academic pursuits.
