Located in UVCE was established in the year 1917, under the name, Government Engineering college by BharatRatna Sir M Visvesvaraya, and was affiliated to University of Mysore.It is the 5th Engineering College to be established in the country.after the formation of Bangalore University in 1964, UVCE became one of the constituent college of Bangalore University. This is one of the oldest technical institutions in the country, imparting technical education leading to B.E, M.E, B.Arch, M.Sc (Engineering) and Ph D degrees in the various disciplines of Engineering and Architecture. It has completed 93 years of academic excellence since its inception. This pioneer has grown many folds and has acquired a leading position in technical education and is rated among the top 15 Engineering colleges in the country situate at K R Circle and in the neighbourhood of Vidhana Soudha, Govt of Karnataka, the city campus is housing the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering. Department of Electronics Engineering and Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Proximity to city bus stand connects one easily to any part of the city. The syllabus is very much acclaimed by the academicians and the industry in India and Abroad. The college has well qualified, experienced and dedicated teaching and technical staff having an average experience of 15 years. The college has conducted over 50 workshops, 5 International Conferences in the last three years and has published more than 500 Research/technical papers in various International journals. Repute publishers have brought out 35 books authored by the staff of UVCE. The college has around 50 Ph D qualified staff members and around 20 more on the verge of completing and submitting the Ph.D thesis. The faculty has completed around 400 Research projects.The teachers are consultants to many industries, Banks and Organizations. UVCE is an excellent Research centre bringing together experts from academia, Industry and Government. It has awarded 76 Ph.Ds in the last three years and over 150 students have registered for Ph D programmes. UVCE is also a Quality Improvement Programme Centre for teachers.More than 90% of Post Graduate students undertake Internship or summer training at various Industries for a period ranging from 6 months to 1 year. The college produces 100% results. More than 2000 students involved in Research and have published Technical papers in International Conferences and Journals in the last two years.
