KGF First Grade College was started at KGF by Dr.T.Thimmaiah Ph.D (London), IAS (Retd), as the founder president under the aegis of Golden Valley Educational Trust, with the sole purpose of imparting quality technical education to all and especially downtrodden people of this backward region.This trust also runs The Golden Valley Institute of Technology (GVIT), KGF Junior College and KGF Law College. Dr.T.Thimmaiah, obtained his Doctorate from the University of London.KGF First Grade College started in 1962 and located in a semi urban area at the Kolar Gold Fields initially functioned under a Governing Council with the Deputy Commissioner of Kolar as its President and also was patronised by the labour unions of the gold mines, the KGF Sanitary Board and Kolar Gold Mining Undertaking.
