Students of Audiology are educated regarding the anatomy and physiology of the normal and abnormal . auditory & vestibular system & related clinical services ., An audiologist is an allied health care ,rehabilitation professional who, by virtue of academic degree ( minimum BASLP/ MSc Audiology degree), clinical training, and license to practice and/or professional credential, is uniquely qualified to provide a comprehensive array of professional services related to the prevention of hearing loss and the audiologic evaluation, identification, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of persons with impairment of auditory and vestibular function, and to the prevention of impairments associated with them. Audiologists identify, assess, diagnose, and rehabilitate individuals with impairment of either peripheral or central auditory and/or vestibular function, and strive to prevent or ameliorate such impairments affecting communication, hearing & balance related quality of life., The students are trained to develop expertise in audiological rehabilitation, which include recommendation of hearing devices such as hearing aids and cochlear implants and also speech language therapy for individuals with hearing impairment. They also learn to cater to the needs of individuals with special needs such as those with tinnitus (ringing sound in the ear), central auditory processing disorders (difficulty in understanding speech in presence of noise) , hyperacusis (intolerance to loud sounds) & balance ( vestibular ) disorders ., Speech and Language Pathology deals with the normal and abnormal aspects of speech , language, cognitive communication abilities , literacy and swallowing skills across the life span. Students of Speech Language Pathology are educated regarding the anatomy and physiology of all the systems involved in various speech perception & production, language & literacy ,communicative effectiveness , swallowing skills, , neurocognition communication skills and related disorders., SLPs are trained in assessment, differential diagnosis and management of above conditions. These disorders include problems related to voice & fluency, mis-articulations, stuttering, speech and language problems associated with hearing impairment, ADHD, mental retardation, language & learning difficulties , cerebral palsy, cleft lip & palate, autism, laryngectomy, cognitive communication & swallowing difficulties post neurological disorders e.g. stroke/paralysis, dementia, neoplasm, etc .
