Earlier, the College started functioning at Khomdon L.P.School, Hiyangthang Bazar with the named Kamakhya College. Later on it was shifted to the present campus having an area of 8.74 acre and re-established on 1981 in the name of Kamakhya Pemton College,Hiyangthang. The main building was donated by Late Th.Somokanta, in the name of his beloved mother Late Thokchom Ongbi Pemton Devi with the solid goodwill of the people in the area as an institution of higher learning, research and extension. The college was conceptualized to stand both for students and society., The Science Block of the Kamakhya Pemton College, Hiyangthang was donated by the Hiyangthang Lairembi Pooja Committee. And, in the year of re-establishment 1981, both the main building and science block were inaugurated by His Excellency, Chintamani Panigrahi, and the Governor of Manipur., As a part of necessary step, the College got registered under the Society of Registration Act, the registration number being 4356 of 1982. Consequently, a big gathering hall Leibaklei Memorial Hall which was donated by Namoijam Khambi Devi in the name of her beloved mother Leibaklei. The College was properly started with many other donors and sympathizers who work for the College. Initially, the College was affiliated to Guwahati University and presently it is affiliated to Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur and to the Manipur University, Canchipur which is now a Central University permanently.
