P.R. ENGINEERING COLLEGE was established in the year 2000 under the benevolent Trust named "Sri Ponnaiyah Ramajayathammal Educational and Charitable Trust" (SPRECT). The Institution was founded by the philanthropic munificent founder Prof. P. Murugesan, who began his career as an academician. The first seed to serve the society and higher education was sown by him in the year 1985, by starting Ram Institute of Computer Science and Technology. With the extra-ordinary support and cooperation from the parents, students and public, he started Ponnaiyah Ramajayam College affiliated to Bharathidasan University in the year 1994. Within a short span of time, the college had earned good name, fame and reputation, which had encouraged starting P.R. Engineering College in the year 2000. Subsequently, his service to education and society has extended in every sphere and in all aspects till date.
P.R.Engineering College is approved by AICTE and is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. The Institution is located in a lush clean and green atmosphere, away from the hassle and tussle of the city, about 11 kms from Thanjavur city. The college is easily reachable from the nearest airport (i.e.) Tiruchirappalli airport and Thanjavur railway station. The campus is accessible by road from Thanjavur, Trichy, Pudukkottai and adjacent districts.
The Motto of our Institution is "QUALITY & DISCIPLINE". The institution sprawls in an area of 11.52 acres. It is enriched with excellent state of the art infrastructural facilities which include well-equipped laboratories, Departmental buildings, central library, ICT facilities, other amenities and students hostels. The college is certified with ISO 9001:2008 certification by TUVSUD since 2008. The college provides transport facilities to local and nearby districts, covering an area of around 50 km radius in addition to the public transport like mofussil and town bus facilities.

Instrumentation is defined as 'the art and science of measurement and control' or it can refer to recent trends and devices applicable to modern technology in measuring and controlling of industrial processes which facilitate good production and quality.
Instrumentation Engineering is the key profession for converting the incredible advances in technology and science into devices, systems and services for the good of the community.
It is essentially a creative activity, which involves taking new directions and using new methods to design, build and operate devices and structures which have not existed before. The actual products can be as diverse as computer chips and car safely air bags, depending on the specialization of the instrument engineer. What engineers have in common is a solid foundation in mathematics, physical and engineering sciences which enables them to apply their skills in an appropriate and disciplined way. In addition an effective engineer needs to be a skilled communicator and team player, since personal interaction between engineers and their clients is highly important.
