Located in The Joganada Deva Satradhikar Goswami College (J.D.S.G. College) the premier institute of higher learning at Bokakhat in the District of Golaghat, was established in the year 1964 with the Arts stream only. For more than a decade, it was the only institute of higher learning in the greater Bokakhat area which is mostly inhabited by SC, ST, TGL (Tea Garden Labour) and OBC/MOBC communities. This is the western most college under the jurisdiction of Dibrugarh University., In this 45th year of the establishment of the college we would like to pay our warm tributes to the donor of the college Late Joganandadeva Satradhikar Goswami of the Kuruwabahi Satra. In this context we would like to acknowledge greatfully the contribution of Late Naren Sarmah. Ex. MLA, Late Chatragopal Karmakar, State Minister, Late Chandranath Bezboruah, Late Robindranath Boruah, Late Chidananda Saikia, ex Head Master of the Bokakhat High School, Sri Jitendra Nath Boruah, Ex. Chairman of Golaghat Mohkuma Parishad and others for whose pioneering efforts the college has seen the light of the day. We also take this opportunity to pay our homage to the founder Principal of the college B.C. Mishra Bhagawati., The College, established with a view to imparting quality higher education to the educated youths of the neighbouring feeding areas, has been contributing to the socio economic, literary and cultural development of the area with devoted zeal. Currently it has been rendering devoted service to 1326 students as on 31st December 2007 with 42 dedicated teachers, 12 Office Staff and a well equipped library., The College is strategically situated by the NH 37 with 52 bighas of land and is one of the most beautiful colleges of Assam affiliated to the University of Dibrugarh. The Arts and the Commerce stream of the college were brought under the deficit system of grants in aid in 1975 and 1988 respectively. Recently the Govt. of Assam has declared the college provincialsed like many other colleges under an Act passed in that behalf. The college has good infrastructure and scenic beauty and currently prossesses two hostels-one each for boys and girls, a big playground, a beautiful nursery and a banana orchard. The good infrastructure of the college has been possible with the benevolent and generous help received, apart from UGC ant the Govt of Assam, from the Singhania family and the ABITA, among others. It is pertinent to mention here that the college could construct a boundary wall last year with a grant of Rs. 10 lakhs under the Buniyad Scheme of the Govt of Assam initiated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Sjt. Tarun Gogoi., Realizing the trends of the day recently we have sought to direct our endeavours to open up new job oriented and other related courses that will cater to the needs of the time with generous help and support from the UGC, Govt. of Assam, PSUs like the NRL etc. Keeping with the changing needs of the times and the mandate of the NAAC, we have, as always, emphasized on quality education to bring out good results-both qualitative and quantitative., We look forward to sustain the same pace of development of the college with help, cooperation and constructive suggestion from all concerned..
