Kamargaon College, which falls under tribal sub-plan of Golaghat District, was established in 1972. It is situated at Kamargaon under Bokakhat Sub-Division of Golaghat District of Assam at a distance of 400 mtrs. towards north from NH 37. It is a distinct institute of higher learning of Kamargaon which covers an area of 35 villages having around 75,000 populations. Kamargaon College had been a great need of the people of the locality since years back for imparting higher education to the young aspirants who cannot go outside for education owing to their poor economic background. In 1971 some enlightened persons came forward to establish a college at Kamargaon considering the need of the community. People of the locality joined hands with them and Kamargaon College came into existence in July, 1972. Since then the College has been serving for the noble cause of re-shaping and transforming this socio economically dis-advantaged society through quality education. The College endeavors to promote in the students and teachers an awareness and understanding of the social needs of the locality and prepare them for fulfilling such needs., Kamargaon College is affiliated to Dibrugarh University and included in the list of the institutions under section 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act and accredited by NACC in 2004. The College community consists of 1052 No. of students, 23 permanent teachers and 07 non-teaching employees. The college was placed at C++ grade by the NAAC Executive Committee in the year 2003. The college presently has 08 departments. Major is offered by all the departments except Philosophy
