Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common queries regarding MAT

Q1How many sections are there in the MAT 2026 syllabus?
The MAT syllabus comprises 5 sections: Language Comprehension, Intelligence & Critical Reasoning, Mathematical Skills, Data Analysis & Sufficiency, and Economic & Business Environment. Each section contains 30 questions.
Q2Does the Economic & Business Environment section affect the MAT percentile score?
No. Most participating MBA institutes calculate the composite score and percentile based on the first four sections (120 questions). The Economic & Business Environment section score is reported separately on the scorecard.
Q3Is there any change in the MAT syllabus for CBT compared to PBT?
No. Both the Paper-Based Test (PBT) and Computer-Based Test (CBT) follow the exact same syllabus, sectional distribution, question pattern, and difficulty standards.
Q4Are MAT previous year questions repeated in upcoming exams?
While exact questions are rarely repeated verbatim, the core conceptual formulas, reasoning patterns, and problem types remain very consistent across sessions.
Q5Are MAT question papers different for PBT and CBT?
Yes, because PBT and CBT exams are conducted on different dates, they feature separate sets of questions. However, the syllabus, sectional structure, and difficulty distribution are maintained at parity.
Q6What is a good mock test score to aim for a 99+ percentile in MAT?
A net raw score of around 85 to 95+ marks out of 120 (in the four composite sections) generally translates into a 98 to 99+ percentile in MAT.
Q7Will AIMA send the MAT admit card by post or courier?
No. The MAT admit card is issued exclusively in digital format and must be downloaded from the official website mat.aima.in.
Q8What should I do if there is a discrepancy on my MAT admit card?
Candidates must immediately contact AIMA MAT helpline at [email protected] or call 011-47673000 to get typographical errors rectified prior to exam day.
Q9Can I change my allotted MAT exam centre after the admit card is generated?
No. AIMA strictly disallows any changes to test cities or exam centres once the admit card has been generated.
Q10Does AIMA release an official MAT answer key on mat.aima.in?
Historically, AIMA does not publish an official answer key or candidate response sheet for public download. The final scores are directly reflected on the MAT scorecard.
Q11How is negative marking applied in MAT?
Every incorrect response incurs a deduction of 0.25 marks, while each correct answer is awarded 1 mark.
Q12Can I request re-evaluation or re-checking of my MAT OMR sheet or CBT test?
AIMA provides a provision for verification of marks upon submission of a formal request along with a nominal verification fee within the prescribed timeframe following result declaration.
Q13How long is the MAT December 2026 scorecard valid?
The MAT scorecard is valid for 1 year for admission into management programmes commencing in the subsequent academic session (2027-2029).
Q14Can I send my MAT score to more than 5 B-schools?
Yes. While the standard registration allows selecting 5 Management Institutes (7 for dual mode) for free reporting, candidates can submit scores to additional B-schools by paying an extra reporting fee per institution.
Q15What if I lose my MAT scorecard printout?
Candidates can log in to mat.aima.in and re-download their scorecard, or request a duplicate scorecard from AIMA by submitting an application along with the prescribed fee.
Q16Does AIMA release a centralised cutoff for MAT?
No. AIMA only administers the exam and issues scorecards. Each participating business school independently releases its own cutoff percentiles and eligibility criteria.
Q17Is there any sectional cutoff in MAT?
Generally, most business schools consider the overall composite percentile. However, select institutes may define minimum sectional thresholds in Mathematical Skills or Reasoning.
Q18Can I get admission into good MBA colleges with a 70-80 percentile in MAT?
Yes. Several reputed AICTE-approved and private university business schools, such as Amity, Alliance, Jaipuria, and JIMS, consider candidates within the 70 to 80 percentile bracket.
