MAT 2026 Syllabus: Section-wise Topics & Question Weightage

The Management Aptitude Test (MAT) 2026 syllabus is structured into five core sections designed to evaluate executive aptitude, quantitative reasoning, analytical thinking, and business awareness. In the updated MAT testing scheme, each section carries 30 multiple-choice questions (total 150 questions across 120 minutes).

1. Language Comprehension (30 Questions)

Evaluates English communication, contextual comprehension, and grammar proficiency:

  • Reading Comprehension: Passages on business, economics, social sciences, science, philosophy, and humanities followed by inference and direct fact questions.
  • Vocabulary & Usage: Synonyms, antonyms, contextual meaning, word analogies, idioms, and phrases.
  • Grammar & Mechanics: Sentence correction, subject-verb agreement, modifiers, tense consistency, and error spotting.
  • Verbal Ability: Para jumbles (sentence rearrangement), summary completion, sentence completion, and cloze tests.

2. Intelligence & Critical Reasoning (30 Questions)

Assesses logic, cognitive deduction, and problem-solving ability:

  • Analytical Reasoning: Linear arrangements, circular arrangements, matrix puzzles, blood relations, and direction sense tests.
  • Logical Deductions: Syllogisms, statement & arguments, statement & assumptions, courses of action, cause & effect.
  • Sequences & Coding: Number series, letter series, coding-decoding, analogies, and classification (odd one out).
  • Data Logic: Family tree diagrams, conditionality checks, and binary logic riddles.

3. Mathematical Skills (30 Questions)

Tests conceptual understanding of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and higher quantitative fundamentals (up to Class 10/12 level):

  • Arithmetic: Percentages, profit & loss, simple & compound interest, ratio & proportion, averages, mixtures & alligation, time & work, pipes & cisterns, time, speed & distance.
  • Algebra: Linear and quadratic equations, inequalities, polynomials, progressions (AP/GP/HP), functions, and graphs.
  • Number Systems: Divisibility, prime factors, LCM & HCF, remainders, base systems, indices, and surds.
  • Geometry & Mensuration: Triangles, circles, quadrilaterals, polygons, coordinate geometry, 2D and 3D surface area and volume.
  • Modern Mathematics: Permutations & combinations, probability, sets, and Venn diagrams.

4. Data Analysis & Sufficiency (30 Questions)

Measures the ability to interpret data charts, tabular sheets, and determine whether given statements suffice to answer analytical problems:

  • Data Interpretation: Tables, bar charts, line graphs, pie charts, radar graphs, mixed caselets, and Venn diagram representations.
  • Data Sufficiency: Determining if statement (1) alone, statement (2) alone, both statements combined, or neither statement is sufficient to solve a given mathematical problem.
  • Data Comparison: Calculating percentage change, ratios, trends, and projections based on numerical data sets.

5. Economic & Business Environment (30 Questions)

Evaluates general awareness of corporate news, financial policies, global commerce, and static governance:

  • Business & Economy: Mergers & acquisitions, corporate heads (CEOs/MDs), brand taglines, fiscal policies, Union Budget highlights, banking repo rates, and stock indices.
  • Indian Governance & Constitution: Fundamental rights, parliamentary bodies, economic five-year plans/NITI Aayog policies, key regulatory authorities (SEBI, RBI, IRDAI, CCI).
  • Global & International Affairs: International organisations (UN, WTO, IMF, World Bank), bilateral treaties, global summits (G20, BRICS), and geopolitical events.
  • Awards & Honours: Nobel prizes, national awards, sports championships, and books & authors.
