UCEED 2027 Syllabus: Part A & Part B Detailed Topic Breakdown

The UCEED 2027 syllabus is meticulously framed by IIT Bombay to evaluate a student's perceptual acuity, spatial cognition, environmental awareness, analytical thinking, and drawing proficiency. The syllabus is bifurcated into two parts: Part-A (administered online via computer-based testing) and Part-B (administered as a paper-and-pencil design test).

UCEED Part-A Detailed Syllabus (Computer-Based Test)

Part-A assesses general design awareness, visualization, and critical thinking across six key core domains:

Subject DomainDetailed Topics & Competencies
Visualization and Spatial Ability Pictorial and diagrammatic questions testing understanding of transformation and manipulation of 2D shapes and 3D objects; spatial relationships, geometric constructions, isometric projections, orthographic views, pattern folding, surface developments, and mental rotation.
Observation and Design Sensitivity Capacity to detect subtle details, hidden features, textures, visual hierarchies, and discrepancies in common everyday objects, natural phenomena, and architectural environments. Critical thinking regarding visual balance, aesthetics, and proportions.
Environmental and Social Awareness General awareness of environmental factors such as climate, sustainability, renewable energy, natural resources, pollution, recycling, biodiversity, cultural diversity, traditional Indian arts and crafts, socio-economic contexts, and contemporary ecological challenges.
Analytical and Logical Reasoning Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data, discern logical sequences, patterns, relationships, cause-and-effect phenomena, deductive and inductive arguments, Venn diagrams, puzzle solving, and structural logic.
Language and Creativity Proficiency in standard English language reading comprehension, vocabulary, idioms, word-play, metaphoric understanding, sentence coherence, lateral thinking, creative problem framing, and original concept generation.
Practical and Scientific Knowledge Familiarity with basic physics principles (mechanics, levers, gears, pulleys, optics, illumination, reflection), mechanical movements, structural integrity, material properties (paper, clay, wood, polymers, metals), and everyday manufacturing processes.

UCEED Part-B Detailed Syllabus (Drawing & Design Aptitude)

Part-B consists of two subjective questions designed to evaluate hands-on artistic rendering, technical drawing competence, and user-centric problem-solving creativity:

  • Question 1 – Drawing & Visual Representation (50 Marks): Ability to draw objects, people, scenes, or abstract environments with accurate proportions, perspective (1-point, 2-point, and 3-point perspective), spatial depth, line quality, light-and-shadow rendering, foreshortening, and texture illustration. Candidates must sketch using pencils within the designated answer booklet.
  • Question 2 – Design Aptitude & Creative Problem Solving (50 Marks): Ability to visualize practical solutions to everyday functional and ergonomic challenges. Focuses on user journey mapping, iterative ideation, ergonomic layout, visual communication, and creative concept articulation with neat annotations.

Q1Is there any negative marking in UCEED Part-A and Part-B?
In Part-A, Section 1 (NAT) has NO negative marking. Section 2 (MSQ) has negative marking (-1 mark for wrong answers and partial marks for partially correct options). Section 3 (MCQ) carries negative marking of -0.71 marks for each incorrect answer. Part-B has no negative marking as it is a subjective drawing and design evaluation.
Q2Can Arts and Commerce students appear for UCEED?
Yes. Candidates from any stream (Science, Commerce, Arts & Humanities) can appear for UCEED and are eligible for admission to B.Des programs at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT Roorkee, and IIITDM Jabalpur. However, candidates wishing to apply to IIT Guwahati must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in Class XII.
Q3How is Part-B evaluated in UCEED?
Part-B answer sheets are evaluated ONLY for those candidates who secure the minimum qualifying cutoff marks in Part-A. The final UCEED total score and all-India rank are calculated by combining marks obtained in both Part-A and Part-B.
