XAT 2027 Syllabus: VALR, Decision Making, QA-DI & GK
The official XAT 2027 overview groups the paper into four sections. XLRI does not publish a fixed exhaustive chapter-by-chapter syllabus on the homepage; the themes below combine its current section descriptions with the historical topic outline. Use the current candidate instructions if they differ.
Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning (26 questions)
- Reading comprehension, including passages, poems and cartoons.
- Critical and analytical reasoning, inference and argument evaluation.
- Vocabulary, grammar, sentence correction, para-jumbles and cloze-style exercises.
Decision Making (21 questions)
- Personal and workplace scenarios requiring prioritisation and balanced decisions.
- Stakeholder interests, ethical reasoning, resource allocation and practical problem solving.
- Use only the information in a case; compare consequences rather than relying on a single formula.
Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation (28 questions)
- Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, mensuration and modern mathematics.
- Tables, charts and other data sets: interpretation, summarisation and analysis.
- Practise multi-step calculations and selecting an efficient method under time pressure.
General Knowledge (20 questions)
- The official 2027 site describes 8 static-GK and 12 current-affairs questions.
- Follow national and international affairs, business, economy, science, awards, sports, culture and important institutions.
- GK is a separate 10-minute part and does not contribute to the XAT percentile according to the official overview; institutes may use it in selection.
Preparation and exam structure
The official page lists 95 questions in 180 minutes: 75 Part 1 questions in a shared 170 minutes and 20 GK questions in 10 minutes. It says Part 1 has no sectional time limit and allows candidates to switch sections. It does not publish 2027 per-question marks or negative-marking details on that public pattern page. Check the current instructions instead of carrying forward an older scoring rule.
