The University of Gour Banga is a public university which was established in 2008. Almost all of the 28 colleges in Malda, Uttar Dinajpur, and Dakshin Dinajpur districts, with the exception of Raiganj University College, are affiliated with this university.

Currently, there are 34 affiliated colleges out of which 20 general degree colleges provide B.A./B.Sc./B.Com./B.C.A./B.B.A. / B.H.M. courses/12 colleges provide B.Ed. course/one college offers B.P.Ed. course and one college conduct 5 yrs.Integrated LL.B. ( B.A. & LL.B. ) course.
